La collana si affianca autorevolmente a RiPLA - Rivista di Psicolinguistica Applicata - Journal of Applied Psycholinguistics, sotto la stessa direzione e cogliendone gli spunti con più ampio respiro.
Attualmente il ventaglio dei contributi pertinenti alla psicolinguistica applicata si è fortemente diversificato, includendo studi sull'acquisizione del linguaggio attenti alle condizioni contestuali ed alle implicazioni educative, studi sull'acquisizione patologica del linguaggio, oltre che quella normale, sull'acquisizione del soggetto bi o plurilingue, oltre che quella del soggetto monolingue, ma anche ogni studio sull'insegnamento-apprendimento delle lingue, quale che sia la funzione che esse rivestono per l'individuo, come lingue vocali o segniche, lingue prime, straniere, seconde, patrimoniali, antiche, come linguaggi puramente formali e pianificati, ed in qualsiasi fase della vita, dal bambino prescolare all'anziano, ormai caratterizzata da mille stimoli nuovi, derivanti da un'accresciuta domanda di plurilinguismo e da un insieme di possibilità tecnologiche più sofisticate.
Psicologia del bilinguismo si rivolge a psicologi, linguisti, glottodidatti, specialisti del linguaggio a vario titolo, come studiosi e come terapisti, ma anche ad antropologi e sociologi, informatici, ecc., e quanti altri siano interessati alle tematiche enunciate qui sopra.
Si tiene tuttavia a sottolineare che, rispetto alla linguistica applicata, la psicolinguistica applicata fonda la sua specificità nell'articolazione fra quelle variabili che attengono al soggetto umano, come processi cognitivi, comunicativi, emotivi, affettivi, ecc. e le variabili strutturali proprie dell'oggetto-lingua. Questo è l'ambito scientifico nel quale la Collana intende promuovere ricerca e dibattito. * This series is an authoriative companion publication to RiPLA - Rivista di Psicolinguistica Applicata, it is run by the same director and editorial board, and addresses in greater depth the themes proposed in the above-mentioned journal.
In recent years the range of contributions on applied psycholinguistics has undergone notable diversification, extending to studies on language acquisition focusing on contextual conditions and edudational implications, studies on pathological as well as normal language acquisition, language acquisition by bilingual or multilingual subjects as well as monolingual subjects. Attention is also devoted to language teaching and language learning, where the concept of language may range over a broad spectrum of communication systems independently of their function for the individual - verbal language, sign language, first, foreign, second, or heritage language, purely formal and planned languages - and can be studied in reference to any stage of life - from the pre-school child to the aged. It is recognised that the role of language acquisition is now undergoing intense development, deriving from an increased demand for plurilingualism and a spectacular array of ever more sophisticated technological instruments.
Psicologia del bilinguismo is designed for psychologists, linguists, teaching methods specialists, language specialists of various kinds, whether engaged in scholarly research or dealing with language therapy; it is also of interest to anthropologists, sociologists, artificial intelligence specialists, and in general all those who are interested in the above described areas of investigation.
It should be noted, however, that in comparison to applied linguistics, the specificity of applied psycholinguistics is based on careful evaluation of the valuables pertaining to the human subject, such as cognitive, communicative, emotive and affective processes etc., in relation to the structural variables that constitute an intrinsic property of the language-object.
