For a number of years now, the history of relations between the law and economics in the 20th century has been the focus of many, in-depth studies (Harnay, Marciano, Hovenkamp, Medema, Mercuro, Pearson). Nonetheless, these works have primarily focused on the United States and largely neglected the corresponding situation in Europe. Consequently, the European dimension of the recent history of the economics of law, economic law and the economics of institutions is still relatively unexamined. This special issue of History of Economics Ideas stems from the international workshop 'Economics and the Law in Europe in the 20th Century: History and Methodology' (Université Paris Dauphine, September 2014) and its innovative goal is to propose some foundations for a development of a history of relations between the science of economics and legal science in twentieth century Europe. Many questions arise; for example, when did investigation of the intersection of economics and the law emerge in Europe? How did this influence evolve during the 20th century? Are there specific European characteristics in the analysis of the relation between the law and economics? Is the legal analysis integrating economics led by private or public lawyers? Are there specifically European schools of legal thought integrating a relationship with economics? The objective is to begin to offer answers to some of these questions. Thus, this special issue explores several contributions, influences, and inquiries into relations between the economic and legal disciplines. Obviously, it does not claim to cover the entire field of 20th century history of European economic and legal thought, but it can list several major European contributions, the origins of which still reveal key moments in the development of certain lines of thought. Da un certo numero di anni a questa parte la storia dei rapporti tra il diritto e l'economia nel Ventesimo secolo è al centro di molti e approfonditi studi (Harnay, Marciano, Hovenkamp, Medema, Mercuro, Pearson). Tuttavia, questi lavori si sono concentrati principalmente sugli Stati Uniti, trascurando in gran parte la corrispondente situazione in Europa. Di conseguenza, la dimensione europea della storia recente dell'economia del diritto, del diritto dell'economia e dell'economia delle istituzioni è ancora relativamente non studiata. Questo numero speciale di History of Economics Ideas nasce dal workshop internazionale 'Scienze economiche e diritto in Europa nel Ventesimo secolo: storia e metodologia' (Università Paris Dauphine, settembre 2014) e il suo obiettivo innovativo è quello di proporre alcune basi per lo sviluppo di una storia delle relazioni tra la scienza economica e la scienza giuridica nell'Europa del Ventesimo secolo. Così, questo numero speciale esplora i diversi contributi, le influenze e le indagini relativi alle relazioni tra le discipline economiche e quelle giuridiche. Ovviamente, non pretende di coprire l'intero campo della storia del pensiero economico e giuridico europeo del Ventesimo secolo, ma può passare in rassegna i numerosi e principali contributi europei, le cui origini ancora individuano momenti chiave nello sviluppo di alcune linee di pensiero.
